EXTERIOR FIRE - GROTON CITY

Early last week GCFD was dispatch to an outside fire involving house siding. Comcast was working across the street when this fire just happened to break out. Good thing they were there or it probably would have made it into the house.

WORKING FIRE - GALES FERRY

On Sunday March 23, Easter, the Gales Ferry and Ledyard Departments were dispatched to a report of fire on the rear of the structure. On arrival units found heavy fire on the backside of the house. A quick knock down prevented the fire from spreading into the house which was on moments away. A great job by all units that operated on scene. SBFD FAST was called to the scene along with LVES and L & M Medics for 1 pt w/ minor burns. Pt refused treatment. Units operated on scene for about 1 hour.

FIREFIGHTER REMOVAL METHOD

Shown are a few pics of PBFD A Shift trying out a firefighter removal technique found on the Internet. First you should unbuckle the victims waist strap and turning it into a harness. Second you unbuckle your waist straps and then you place them behind the shoulder straps like shown above. Now you have control of the fireman making it easier to drag them to safety. It also gives you good leverage while negotiating stairs.
Done correctly the down fireman will still be able to drink his coffee without spilling.
Their were definitely some pros and cons to this method along with some variations. Just another tool for ya. Hopefully no one will ever have to use it.

OLD MYSTIC ENGINE 61

Here are some sneak peak photos of OMFD G-61. It is now at OMFD Station 1 until members are trained on the new CAFS system and then will be station at Headquarters.
It will probably be in service in the next 2-3 weeks.

1000 Gallon tank
30 gallon Class A foam
30 gallon Class B foam
2000 GPM pump
20KW generator
Complete Air Bag protection for front seat passengers and rear seat passengers
The striping on the back is what NFPA 1901 is suggesting, and is working on mandating.
thanks to Keith Richards for the pics and the description of the new rig.
Looks like you guys did a great job on this one. Cant wait to see the whole thing.
